i lay the days and weeks and months ahead

at the feet of Imam al-Sajjad

and ask him to pray for me

so that i remember

and persist

and grow

and become sajjādī

such that the routine of life

and the power of tyrants

does nothing to dampen

the ḥusaynī fire within
